Education & Impact
Investing in the Future of the Michiana Community.
Mission, Vision & Values
The mission of the Irions Foundation is to promote the education, development and welfare of the Michiana community with a focus on youth.
The vision of the Irions Foundation is to fund causes in the Michiana area in perpetuity. We endeavor to responsibly manage and deploy the resources entrusted to the foundation in the interest of our community. We will do this by careful vetting of the charities and causes which we support. The foundation corpus will be managed in such a way as to optimize returns and minimize expenses.
We are committed to the following values as critical to our ability to serve our community:
Integrity
A pledge to honesty, professionalism, humility, and respect.
Perseverance
From both ourselves and our partners, the continued movement towards the greater good.
Excellence
In every worthwhile endeavor.
Education
The most powerful weapon to change the world.
Grant Making
Responding to needs and opportunities in our community that achieve the most significant impact over time is our guide in the granting process. We focus solely on the greater Michiana area with a focus on education.
Grant applications are reviewed regularly throughout the year, as they are received. The deadline for consideration of any request is August 1st of each year. Final decision making and grant distributions are made in December. New recipients or organizations seeking funding greater than $5,000 are expected to meet with one of the foundation officers well in advance of the deadline.
All grant recipients must be a 501(C)(3) in good standing serving the Michiana area.
Our grant making process:
Receipt of application
Review by Program Manager who will reach out with any questions or further information required
Site visit or interview with organization and foundation representative
Approval or denial of request and notification
Grant distribution checks provided end December
All applications will be given fair and equal consideration. Decisions are based on the following factors:
Impact - initiatives and programs that benefit a substantial number of individuals are preferred
Benefit - programs and charities that address a problem’s root cause are favored as opposed to addressing a symptom of a greater problem
Sustainability - Irions Foundation seeks to support those programs which have the structure, community support, and leadership to continue serving the community for the long term
To apply, please use the passcode provided to you by an officer of Irions Foundation.
If you do not have the passcode, and meet the preliminary qualifications for consideration of a grant, please use the contact form and a grant administrator will be in touch.
About
The Irions Foundation was established in 1997 by Tom Irions. Raised in the Michiana area, Mr. Irions co-founded ASA Electronics, an electronics company serving the mobile markets in 1977.
He continues to serve as the CEO. The efforts of his associates over the decades have made ASA Electronics prosper and he is especially grateful to all those who have contributed to its success. Born from a desire to give back to the community he came from, he established Irions Foundation. His firm belief is that opportunities for education, competition, health and wellbeing create channels to success for future generations. Today, he and his wife Jennifer manage the foundation’s investment and grant making. Their common principle of stewardship lead them to manage the foundation with the lowest possible operating costs achievable, taking no salaries or expenses from the foundation."
